Michelle has a passion and love for figure skating. She has been skating for over 25 years, but was considered a late bloomer as a competitor. At the age of 18, Michelle made the decision to pursue competitive skating, and take a shot at achieving her goal of competing at the National Championships. After four long years of hard work and dedication, Michelle accomplished this goal, and competed at the 2015 Canadian Tire National Championships at the age of 22, where she not only qualified, but placed 7th. This phenomenal result pushed Michelle to reach for even higher goals. The following season, Michelle placed 5th at Nationals and earned a place on the National Team. Michelle consistently places among the top skaters at the Canadian National Championships, most recently placing 4th at the 2022 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships. Over the course of her skating career, Michelle has proudly represented Canada at international competitions. Notably, she competed at the 2018 ISU Four Continent Championships, in Taipei City, where she skated two clean programs and finished 15th.
Throughout her ongoing career, Michelle is fortunate to have learned from some of Canada's top coaches and skaters, both on and off the ice. Michelle's unique skating style, attention to detail in performance and artistry on the ice, has led her to become a choreographer. She is a Skate Canada NCCP provincial coach with over 10 years of coaching experience. Michelle is also a certified Personal Training Specialist and teaches group fitness classes to skaters of all ages and abilities. Michelle is very involved in her skating community, and loves to perform in ice shows and teach at seminars.
"The vision I want to share is about the love of figure skating and driving your own success story. My own, non-traditional upbringing in sport has led to me to many amazing opportunities. I have learned many life lessons throughout my time in skating, and I want to help other young athletes realize their own potential and the joy in skating." - Michelle Long
