For Antonio, there are important things to consider as a Teacher and a Coach. They should ensure that the dancer or skater understands what they are doing, teach and correct students in a very positive way, empowering students to believe in themselves and emotion is very important, ability to feel and express it through your face and body. Something can be performed perfectly technically but without emotion, it is forgettable. For a good program, every aspect of the production, from music, lights, costumes, dancers, make-up to the hair. Without all the elements coming together, even if the performer is amazing the program would not be good.
Antonio's philosophy is, “You may have a big talent, but if you don't work, you will do nothing.” For him, it's the hard work, the energy within to push forward with his message to the world, being resilient to challenges, and not being afraid of taking risks in order to succeed.
Antonio was the youngest Director of the Spanish National Ballet. His main goal is to open the visibility of the Spanish National Ballet around the world. Some of her achievements are creating many different programs with all the oldest types of Spanish dance, invited many different choreographers to collaborate to create new ballet and choreography, invited different costume designers to work together, open and engage in social media to reach the audience in the world, take care of dancers to empower them to give their best performances and work with the 150-strong team in the company and ensuring every detail works well because the smallest thing has the potential to create big problems in the future.
The characteristics of becoming a choreographer according to Antonio are, being curious, observant, open to accept new things, represent uniqueness in a wider crowd, and is open for collaboration. He also shared his experience working with World-Class Skaters. He said that the higher the skaters were, the more natural they were in the choreography, they are more confident of what they're doing, comfortable with themselves, and receptive to new ideas.
As per Antonio, he got his inspiration from museums, the cinema, fashion shows, and costumes. Combining different genres and categories together, be it dance, fashion, everything. Being at this moment, be present to feel your emotions and pay attention to your surroundings. Take risks. Not be afraid to be revolutionary. Antonio explained that your emotion is what drives and motivates you every day.
For a sportsman, sportswoman, winning an Olympic medal would evoke an emotion. It is the same for dancers. He thinks that people and kids are gradually losing their sensitivity when they are using computers and looking at cell phones all the time. Emotion is important in our growth. It is what moves us in our lives to connect with one another.
